print competition 17th OCTOBER 2016
'OPEN'
Judge: Harold Mouseley
MORE IMAGES TO FOLLOW, AS AND WHEN RECEIVED
Naomi and Carol once again did a superb job organising this competition and everything went as smooth as silk. Our judge was Harold Mouseley, who as always gave excellent comments about the prints, which was appreciated by one and all.
As normal, the colour section was judged first and what a job Harold had. All the entries were fantastic and the Club's improvement was plain to see. Many varied subject matter such as animals, nature, insects, world travel, people and architecture for instance. Dave's landscape-style image of Mevagissey Harbour, wooed Harold and made him remember his youth so much that he had no choice but to award it first place. Dave also picked up the third spot as well with his lovely bird image and Paul was given second place of the little girl kissing her horse, after they had both won 1st place at a show.
After tea and biscuits it was the turn of the mono section to be judged - slightly less entries but the standard was just as high. Once again the topics were varied such as : aircraft, air crew, a man in a cupboard, more nature, birds and theatre photography. Although four images were given 20 marks by Harold, the clear winner was Naomi's terrific shot of a Cattle Egret keeping a wary eye on her aiming the 600mm lens in his direction. George got the second spot with his rather candid image of the Dovercourt Theatre Group and Dave in third place with his 'Jenny'.
Ian was also awarded 20 points with ' Journey Ahead' and although Harold did not say so, the decision from Naomi is that it deserved a Highly Commended place.
This being the last print competition of the year, three more trophy winners were established (please see the 'Scores on the Doors' page)
