***********************************************************************************************
To celebrate the Harwich & Dovercourt Camera Club's 60th year of non-interupted existance,  the clubs that have fought against us in annual battles over the years, were invited to compete together on Monday 3rd October 2016 for two, specially created, silver cups.

Our nearest rivals Manningtree, many members of which are also Harwich subscribers, joined Clacton, Felixstowe, East Ipswich and ourselves, in the function room of the Cliff Hotel Harwich, made famous by the cast of the TV series, Hi Di Hi, to have five DPI's and five prints judged by Barbie Lindsay.

As the DPI's were screened one after the other, it was soon clear that Barbie would be hard to impress and top marks were rare and far between. That said, she was excellent in the decisive way she assessed each image, giving noteable comments and praise, where she thought neccessary. Unlike many judges, she knew what marks to give there-and-then and none were held back for later appraisal - this to me at least was very refreshing.

At the end of the DPI competition, the 75+ audience enjoyed the buffet refreshments provided by the hotel and the bar at the back of the hall was well attended. Never before had we all been together at the same time and the gathering became a unique social event that will now be an annual occurence, hosted by the winner/s of the two cups.

After the interval, our competitions team (Tony, Naomi and Carol) continued the excellent, professional approach and the print competition began and ended, much as the DPI one did. After which the scores were declared (see below) and the cups presented.

It is envisaged that in 2017 we will once again host this competition, although the venue and date is yet to be decided.

Results
DPI -
1st -East Ipswich - total of 91/100 (with only one 20 scored)
2nd - Clacton - 86
3rd - Felixstowe - 83 (with one 20 scored)
Joint 4th = Manningtree and HDCC - 80 points

PRINT -
1st - East Ipswich - total of 94/100 (with only one 20 scored)
2nd - Clacton - 90 (with two 20s scored)
3rd = Felixstowe and Manningtree - 85 (with Felixstowe scoring one 20)
5th = HDCC - 84 points

Like good hosts, we didn't want to steal the limelight and came last in both competitions, however, Lynne, Val, Naomi and Tony's images were all rewarded with decent marks - well done lad and lasses.
